Newsletter – November 2025

We are convinced that there are more leaves to clear this year or is it that as we get older it becomes more of a burden. But in my garden we are grateful that there seems to be no beech mast which for us is certainly a blessing. Is this climate change I wonder.

We were sorry to hear that our Honorary President Michael Baron had died and sent our condolences to daughter Clare Read and family. Michael spent many years teaching at Winchester College before retiring to Brandy Mount off East Street. It was at Brandy Mount that many of us were treated to his generous hospitality and tours of his garden with its national collection of Snowdrops and Daphnes. Michael’s knowledge of horticulture was renowned and it was good to see so many of his friends and colleagues at his memorial service. I was pleased to see that the Alresford Horticultural Society was well represented on that occasion.
